Somewhere in Aswān, Egypt
The crates rocked as the trucks moved through the untamed desert road at night. The headlights were off, but the experienced drivers moved in a flow following each other in a line in the darkness. The leading truck was driven by the leader who knew this land better than the maps made by foreign explorers.
Suddenly a distant sound started coming, which made the drivers and passengers stiff. Every one of them pushed their accelerators speeding the truck’s back wheels.
“Slow down,” all the walkie-talkies crackled. “We don’t want them to sniff our sound.”
The drivers followed the order of their leader obediently. They released the accelerator, driving the trucks slowly. From the cargo area, some protests erupted in Arabic voice because of the slowing as they also detected the distant sound.
The drivers didn’t know Arabic fluently except some necessary words, only their leader knew well. They just managed to stay, “ Tawa’Qaf” – means ‘stop’ in Arabic, towards the Egyptian company behind them.
The drivers were expecting the distant sound to be more distant, but the sound started nearing towards the convoy of trucks. As they looked through their respective windows, they could make out far away light in the horizon flickering between the mounds in the Egyptian desert.
The leader cursed through the walkie-talkie and growled, “Speed up! Loose them!”
The drivers quickly followed the order pushing hard on their accelerator. The engines of the trucks groaned in unison as the vehicles lurched forward with the new speed.
The trucks were now moving faster than before. Sand particles jumped from their places with the friction of the tires. But it didn’t slow down the coming lights, movements and sound towards them. Rather the sound started to increase.
The Egyptians started protesting again assessing the gravity of the situation.
“Order to arm,” the leader called through the walkie-talkie.
All the drivers knew the Arabic codeword for this order, as was informed to the Egyptians earlier. All the drivers called in Arabic, “Silah” – which meant ‘arm’.
The Egyptians started moving quickly and searching among the crates. Soon they each had rifles held and targeted at the coming lights.
Anyway, some of you might be wondering about the quick plot changes. But I intend this story not to be a novel, so things will be faster. But no worries, the plot will be slower in the next chapters. And the Arabics are maybe not so accurate with the real ones, as I had to take help from Google Translator. Anyway, till then, stay safe AND WAIT FOR THE COVER!
